This transformation function is used for automatic thresholding an image to create a binary image. The binary
image can then be used for shape analysis and other applications. Global methods apply the same threshold
to the entire image. Local methods compute a local threshold around each pixel and can handle uneven
lighting, but produce noisy results in regions with uniform lighting..
There are ten methods of thresholding an image
- Global: Mean : Applies a global threshold across the whole image.
- Global: Otsu : Applies a global threshold across the whole image using the variance based threshold using Otsu's method from an input image.
- Global: Entropy : Applies a global threshold across the whole image using a threshold which maximizes the entropy between the foreground and background regions.
- Local: Square : Thresholds the image using a locally adaptive threshold that is computed using a local square region centered
on each pixel.
- Local: Block Min-Max : Applies a threshold to an image by computing the min and max values in a regular grid across
the input image.
- Local: Block Mean : Applies a threshold to an image by computing the mean values in a regular grid across
the input image.
- Local: Block Otsu : Applies a threshold to an image by computing the Otsu threshold in a regular grid across
the input image.
- Local: Gaussian : Thresholds the image using a locally adaptive threshold that is computed using a local square region centered
on each pixel.
- Local: Sauvola : Applies Sauvola thresholding to the input image.
- Local: NICK : Applies NICK thresholding to the input image.
